Measuring performance of virtual disks under Windows 2003

This is almost certainly caching. Can you post the /etc/qemu-server/<vmid>.conf for the VM and also the results of pveperf /var/lib/vz. For a bog standard test I generally create a 5GB file and then time how long it takes to copy....

Simple networking query - can host listen on vlan?

Bump - anyone? Surely this must be possible?

Survey: Proxmox VE Kernel with or without OpenVZ?

Yep - about 45 VMs are Ubuntu server. I only use HP DL380 G6 servers which are recognised fine under Debian/Proxmox.

Survey: Proxmox VE Kernel with or without OpenVZ?

Well.....I personally don't use OpenVZ at all for any of my 50+ VMs - they are all KVM. The reason I don't use another product is: - backup solution for proxmox is pretty nice - ease of configuring infrastructure (setting up SAN and VLANs etc.) - access to administration via the web is...

RAID sata / sas / other tips advice needed

I won't comment on pveperf but I have noticed that SAS disks cope with more concurrent load then SATA disks. I don't have numbers, that is just my "feeling". Think of it like a highway - the SAS disks will let 50 fast cars on whereas the SATA disks will only let 10 on. Terrible analogy :)...

Simple networking query - can host listen on vlan?

Hi, I have a number of nodes which run VMs which can communicate on a various VLANs. These VLANs are configured via the hosts web gui - all great. However, the hosts themselves cannot communicate with machines on the VLANs, and this makes sense - the hosts don't have an IP on the VLAN...

KVM Ubuntu Lucid (latest) doesn't respond to qm shutdown requests

You, my man, are a star! (even if you have a very specific definition of 'obvious' :)

KVM Ubuntu Lucid (latest) doesn't respond to qm shutdown requests

Hi all, I have a bit of a problem - I have lots (>40) KVM machines with Ubuntu Lucid installed on my cluster. I am also a bit of a muppet system admin so I have to far too frequently reboot the hardware. The problem is that the KVM guests with Ubuntu installed don't do anything when a...

    pve server randomly freezes

FWIW I found 2.6.32 is a bit snappier for my KVM based machines. I don't use OpenVZ, which isn't supported by 2.6.32.

Did you make sure you shutdown and restarted after changing the number of VPUs? Rebooting isn't enough....

    pve server randomly freezes

Er, yes, based on your post the feedback is don't use them together :) Sorry - that wasn't very helpful at all. I have nothing good to contribute, I just couldn't resist a patch of sunshine in a very very bad day for me. I will go now and read up on proper netiquette.

Custom Remote Instalation (Without Baremetal Iso)

Yep, that makes sense - rsync would make it much cheaper to "download the machine dump" though as not much will change between each vzdump I expect.

Eh? What? Sorry - I don't understand what you mean - sorry.

    RAID Stripe size question

No idea - but I too would appreciate a step by step "idiot's" guide to optimising block sizes all the way from the VM to the SAN (i.e. including Promox and the LVM layers).

Custom Remote Instalation (Without Baremetal Iso)

Can that be a feature request please: http://forum.proxmox.com/threads/4305-Feature-request-allow-vzdump-to-use-remote-locations-(rsync-for-example) (sorry for cross posting)

Feature request - allow vzdump to use remote locations (rsync for example)

Hi, At the moment I: - use vzdump to backup to a local disk (or SAN whatever) - rename the files so they are unique to the VMID (i.e. remove the date-time part) - rsync them offsite (actually I use rsync-backup) It would be really nice if vzdump did all that for me. Ideally I...

    OpenVPN

PFSense rocks - I used to use it a lot but then ran into one or two issues with lots of NIC cards. Then I used ebox which ran into another issue where it didn't allow more than one named host with the same name (i.e. a.some.domain clashed with a.some.other.domain). In the end I use vyatta...

Feature request - allow cluster communication over non-standard SSH ports

I was being a muppet - changing the port in both /etc/ssh/sshd_config and /etc/ssh/ssh_config to 222 works fine.
