PBS, calculate size of tape backup

Hi Found these two links about the possibilities to calculate the size of backups. https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/real-size-of-diskspace-used-in-backups.102664/ https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/how-to-get-the-exactly-backup-size-in-proxmox-backup.93901/ Our challenge is to not use more...

Proxmox VE 8.3 released, support for Squid but not recommanded?

Hi there as there are no replies possible on the announcement, I just would like to share here ;) I totally fell over the «there is support for squid» but just after starting with the update, saw that this is not "Enterprise Subscription" ready. Most probably would like to see that kind of...

[SOLVED] PVE, Snapshot unsuccessful stopped, how to remove?

Hello there Tried to do a snapshot on a large vm with 160G RAM including it, but was in a hurry. So I tried to stop it, but the host came into unsresponsive and needed to restartet. After that, the snapshot was still visible and while trying to delete, it ended after removing with: Removing...

Encrypted zfs pool doesn't auto decrypt and mount, can do it manually

The journal is very noisy, if I could filter out I'd post parts. cat ./usr/lib/systemd/system/zfs-mount.service [Unit] Description=Mount ZFS filesystems Documentation=man:zfs(8) DefaultDependencies=no After=systemd-udev-settle.service After=zfs-import.target After=systemd-remount-fs.service...

Encrypted zfs pool doesn't auto decrypt and mount, can do it manually

While searching for the same/a similar problem, I found this thread and it's still unanswered? My root is on ext4 on a M.2 SSD, the virtual machines are on a pool consisting of two mirrors with an encrypted zfs. The encryption key saved on the root as I am not worried about loss of the whole...

Media Pool Retention, how to calculate

Like to (partially) answer to myself ;) So the tapes have expired, dunno if yesterday (Saturday) or today (Sunday), just have seen it now (on Sunday). Under «Content» the backup is still visible, I think it will disappear as soon as one (or the first) of the now retired tapes are getting...

Media Pool Retention, how to calculate

Hello again We're running slowly out of tapes and are unsure how the retention has to be calculated Retention = 4 weeks Allocation = fri, 20:00h backup-jobs Starting with Fridays, full backup (needs two tapes, runs until Sunday morning) Starting with Sundays until Thursday = latest only So I...

    Understanding the Retention on Tape

Hello again Ok, they do not need to be reformatted, fine. And of course will the data on the tape invalid after starting to overwrite. But «expired» tapes will *always* be overwritten from the beginning, do they?

    Understanding the Retention on Tape

Sorry to bother… I did a short dig into documentation and the posts here, but wasn't able to find (excuse my impatience). We don't really understand the exact behavior of the retention. If the date for retention has arrived, what happens to the media/catridges? will the status in the...

PBS Tape Backup, understanding options for retention and allocation policy

Thank you again for the support Now, everything works as expected. Our settings: Media pool: Allocation friday 20:00h backup jobs: 100: Eject = No, Export = Yes, Latest only = No, Schedule = Fri 22:30 200: Eject = Yes, Export = No, Latest only = Yes, Schedule Sun - Wed 22:30 201: Eject = No...

PBS Tape Backup, understanding options for retention and allocation policy

Yes, this did work for us. If exported (not only ejected), that autoloader does not try to get the media back and started with a new tape cartridge.

PBS Tape Backup, understanding options for retention and allocation policy

ok, we have a single media pool (or one test pool and one prod) I see, allocation policy is the keyword we're have to look into. According to the manual, this should work: Create a new set when the specified Calendar Event triggers. I will try starting from this Friday and than report.

PBS Tape Backup, understanding options for retention and allocation policy

Hey there We are using pbs for some time to our full satisfaction. Some weeks ago we ordered a small tape autoloader and began to do offline backups. (1 drive, 8 slots, 3 marked as export slots). We were really happy how good and easy the setup of the autoloader was, congrats to the team...

PVE-Ceph, Adding multiple disks to a existing pool

Every type has a separate class (hard disk, SSD, SAS SSD) and for the new pool there would be a separate class too.

PVE-Ceph, Adding multiple disks to a existing pool

We are talking about ProxMox with Ceph (as this is a ProxMox forum), not a Ceph only storage cluster. Sorry, if this wasn't clear in the beginning. So there are two bridges (each 2x25 GbE LACP), one for the vm traffic (to the outside or in between the vm) and one for storage. So on the storage...

PVE-Ceph, Adding multiple disks to a existing pool

I know the principle of horizontal scaling ;-) Actually, I got 8 bays on every node. Using (historically) 2 for a pair of hard disk with its accompanying SSD for WAL/DB and six bays for SSD. We are moving out other bays with SATA SSD for more and larger SAS. Ending in 4 x SAS SSD per Node and...

PVE-Ceph, Adding multiple disks to a existing pool

Thank you guys, I just wanted to understand and perhaps getting a hint to some documentation or experiences. But feel free to rate my network. It won't feel hurt, neither do I. The servers are HPE and equipped with 512 G RAM, 32 Core EPYC. Data and storage networks are separated of course. This...
