Install Proxmox VE / ZFS on a LUKS encrypted volume

I was also looking for the same but this seems to be a total hassle to achieve or at least get close to so my thoughts are: I could give up on using ZFS as a raid solution, instead use hardware raid which makes it easy to install a luks encrypted proxmox and use i.e. thin-lvm which offers...

    Proxmox Encryption

I'm lost a bit here and would like to ask for clarification. What I am looking at is installing proxmox and using ZFS but if I install debian first it'll only install onto 1 disk or onto a software raid but I mean to use ZFS for creating a striped mirror. Is that somehow possible?

    ZFS and encryption

Btw. this page also lists encryption as one of ZFS's advantages: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/ZFS_on_Linux

    LXC to KVM

Did you succeed? Btw. why are these steps necessary or can you expand on the idea please? can you share more details please, what exactly are we looking for here? I'd have assumed that I install a new KVM with the exact same OS version running in the LXC and adapt it to use the same...

    KernelCare and Proxmox 4.x

Also getting this email from my cron job running /usr/bin/kcarectl --auto-update pveversion -v proxmox-ve: 4.4-88 (running kernel: 4.4.59-1-pve) pve-manager: 4.4-13 (running version: 4.4-13/7ea56165) pve-kernel-4.4.59-1-pve: 4.4.59-87 Any ideas how to further debug this or should I ask on...

Guest freeze timeout - feature request

Hm, still seeing this with the current Proxmox version every now and then, any other ideas? Backups seem to succeed. This example was a Win10 workstation. 103: Jun 17 00:45:59 INFO: Starting Backup of VM 103 (qemu) 103: Jun 17 00:45:59 INFO: status = running 103: Jun 17 00:46:05 INFO: update VM...

Proxmox or VMWare, would like to get some more arguments

You are of course right and I am a supporter, its just I need to present management with my reasoning for NOT using our existing VMware license hence I am looking for interesting features that set Proxmox apart from VMWare.

Proxmox or VMWare, would like to get some more arguments

I am looking to setup a new project at work; single server hosted in the cloud, a few HDs, nothing too complicated. I personally have experience with Proxmox but also work with VMWare daily at work. We do have enough spare licenses for VMWare so that price isn't an immediate argument. I have...

    Slow dump on LXC

    Thanks, I realized my reply was incomplete, this was upgraded from an older 3.x Proxmox version as far as I can remember, its definitely ext3. from my fstab: cat /etc/fstab # <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass> /dev/sda2 / ext3 errors=remount-ro...

    Slow dump on LXC

Sorry, you are right, the original poster is backing up to NFS, I joined his thread because he also experienced a different speed between LXC/KVM backups. thanks, I think this explains everything :-( Its an entry-level server, with 2 mirrored SATA 7200RPM consumer HDs on a LSI raid controller...

    Slow dump on LXC

Thanks, that is very helpful in case I try to backup to NFS again but its not the case. like I said, I backup to "local". btw. the backup speed "is slow" right? Its not supposed to take that long for LXC, correct?

    Slow dump on LXC

Thanks but not sure how that helps. Let me add that this is a hardware raid, a simple LSI card but with BBU and 512MB cache and the backups and the disks all reside on the same 2 mirrored hard drives. The point is, how can reads only be slow for LXC but not for KVM?

    Slow dump on LXC

I have the exact same problem, why are LXC backups taking 10 times longer than KVM backups? Any ideas? Look at the 2 KVMs I marked, 103 is a Win10 machine and 111 is a Centos VM. They are so fast. All the rest are LXC.

pure-ftpd problems running inside a LXC

Good point about SFTP that will do for me so I'll abandon pureftpd. Thanks for the pointer. The point about me asking and pointing to that old proxmox 1.x thread is that the solution for Openvz did work without recompiling so I had hoped there might be something similar around for LXC. This is...

pure-ftpd problems running inside a LXC

I get this error: pure-ftpd[17481]: (?@?) [ERROR] Unable to switch capabilities googling pointed me towards a few threads suggesting it won't work with a non-stock kernel. Looking into the Proxmox forums I found this old thread dealing with the same problem but OPENVZ and not LXC. Not sure how...

@Andrei ZeeGiant would you mind sharing more details about what you changed where so others can test this too? I'm unsure where to change these "/var/lib/vz mount options"

How to protect ProxMox with a virtual virewall?

@Denny: thanks, that looks pretty straight forward. Will test in a lab first :-) I was looking renting a basic server which covers my needs at around 150$ / month (I can use ProxMox or VMware which I have a spare license for). Not sure what you can get for that money with regards to cloud...

How to protect ProxMox with a virtual virewall?

Hi @Denny and thanks so much for the details which have been very helpful. This was a theoretical question I had because at the company I currently work for, someone had the idea of moving a few linux servers from our DMZ onto a server in the cloud. I had a look at our needs and realized we...

How to protect ProxMox with a virtual virewall?

Thanks for all the info guys, the drawing is awesome BUT: this looks like it will only work with 2 physical nics, I was looking to figure out how this can be done with only 1 physical nic on the hypervisor. Am I misreading something here or is that not possible at all? ###edit### sorry if I...

How to protect ProxMox with a virtual virewall?

Would me diagram now look correct? The top one is the original, current setup, the bottom one would be what I understood from your explanations. I think I got it right, a bridge doesn't need an IP, so with the bottom diagram, incoming requests for the IP of the hypervisor or any of the guests...
