Hello,
while restoring a vm backup over the pbs i noticed that the restore took a huge amount of time, multiple hours in fact which would be catastrophic for a productive system that needs to be restored in case of sudden crashes. So i tried to look into the possible reasons as of why the...
Hi fabian and thank you for the quick reply!
I actually meant restart because i noticed that graceful reloads did not help much last time.
I will try to clarify next time what tasks are running in detail. Right now i assume that most of it results from the verify jobs that are scheduled during...
Hello,
i am running into a minor inconvenience with one of our larger proxmox clusters and the related backup servers.
About the environment: i am working with a rather big PVE cluster, including more than 5 nodes with a lot of VMs on each host. Those VMs back up on currently 2 PBS-Servers...
Hello,
it appears that we finally found the solution for the disconnects on our windows machines.
Apparently the reason why the VMs lost connection was because of a combination of IPv6 and the NCSI service of windows. I noticed that NCSI triggered during the times when the network connection was...
The thing is that my boxes doesn't show any "missing devices". Even the "PCI simple communications controller" mentioned in the QEMU-Guest Agent Wiki page was not missing on any of my VMs.
I already tried to let windows search for drivers on my virtio disk but there seem to be no "newer"...
@merkkg thank you for your response. Great to hear that your issue seems so far resolved!
Can you maybe tell me if you installed specific drivers from the virtio disk? Or only the network driver? I already installed the redhat Driver for my network interface because without it i couldn't get my...
Update: apparently moving VMs to another host seems not to be the solution so i dont really think its a problem with one PVE host itself. The disconnects appeared on other clusternodes as well but still only on win 2019 machines.
I also tried reaching out for help or advise in microsoft forums...
Thank you for this script merkkg! I will definetely keep that in mind as a workaround if we really cannot find the solution for this one.
Currently i am troubleshooting if there is a possible problem with one of my clusternodes as i noticed that all problematic vms sit on the same node, evne...
Update:
We performed maintenance on our cluster and disabled the vlan feature on the bridge but the problem is still persistent. All nodes got updated to the current pve version as well (currently running: PVE 7.2-6 with kernel 5.15.39-1). This issue is giving me a serious headache..
Because of...
I tried different troubleshootings on the windows machines itself but resetting the network did not resolve the issue. Connectivity got restored after the whole windows machine was rebooted.
When i checked the windows event logs the only messages that occur are notifications that the network...
Hello Oguz,
i checked the logfiles of our PVE hosts but i cannot find any evidence of problems with the bridge.
We will disable the VLAN feature next and monitor the situation.
I still think it's weird that those disconnects only occur in our Windows 2019 machines.. If theres an issue with...
Hello,
we still experience random disconnects within our vms. Switching the network devices (like virtio) did not solve it and we are unable to determine the cause of it within windows itself.
Is there any other way to perform troubleshooting on the linux bridge of the host to check if there...
As far as i know i did not configure them to be protected but just to be sure where can i see that option? I do not find it inside the PBS GUI.
Thank you!
Hello,
i am working with one Proxmox BS and multiple PVE servers and managed to configure it accordingly so that the pbs does backups of my vms regularly. But i have a question regarding the Backup schedules and the pruning of backups.
Some of my VMs seem to do their backups just as intended...
Hello,
apparently switching to virtio did not solve the problem. We still experience disconnects with our windows machines.
Any news regarding my question if it may be related to vlan settings?
Thanks and best regards
Hi,
yes, every vm uses a different MAC address.
Here's the interface-config from our proxmox host:
cat /etc/network/interfaces
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
iface eno1 inet manual
iface eno2 inet manual
auto enp94s0f0
iface enp94s0f0 inet manual
auto enp94s0f1
iface enp94s0f1 inet manual...
Hi!
thank you for your quick reply!
As soon as the vms lose connection, windows shows "no internet access", i also cannot ping the gateway.
We use the following vm config:
qm config 104
boot: order=virtio0
cores: 4
machine: pc-q35-5.1
memory: 16088
net0...
Hello,
i am currently trying to troubleshoot a problem with some of my windows server 2019 vms. They repeatedly lose network connectivity, regardless of the vm settings used. Rebooting the vm seems to solve the problem for a while until it reappears again. I already tried switching between...
Hello!
i got a few backups on my local backup storage on my PVE server. Is there a way to move and migrate them to a new PBS?
Do i have to transform the format of my backups? My current ones are all using vma / vma.lzo and as far as i know does the BS use a different format (meaning the .fidx...
Hallo Fabian,
danke für die schnelle Rückmeldung! Ich werde dies einmal entsprechend versuchen. Ich schätze mal, dass es keine Möglichkeit gibt die alten Backups zu "reparieren"? Zumindest bis die Ursache gefunden wird?
