When you convert the image where are you telling it to save the image at?
Are you running the mergeide.reg file before you run the vmware converter?
What os are you trying to convert?
What kind of hardware are you using?

Depending on the systems you are trying to migrate to proxmox ie Windows or linux depends on the steps you are going to take.
I have migrated the windows systems using these steps. And i haven't had a issue yet.

You can use that how-to in windows 7 ,2000, 2003, 2008, all versions i haven't tried it in windows xp no reason to in my mind =D
The mergide.reg were mainly for 2000 & 2003, 2008 will work without the mergide.reg file but It doesn't hurt to run it and wont cause any issues if you don't use it...
Yes I use the latest version of both hostbill and proxmox. I found another bug for them with the ipam module not working correctly as well as the server status isn't working. I will post a follow up once they give me one.

why don't you just sftp the image over to /var/lib/vz/images/xxx then make sure you change the conf file in /etc/pve/nodes/cluster name/qemu-server/xxx.conf
I have migrated alot of systems this way and it takes a few steps away from transferring systems.
