    [SOLVED] 4.2 VGA Passthrough Problems

Would you mind sharing your entire config file? I've been struggling getting mine passed through, as documented in this thread, and it would be nice to see what a working Nvidia passthrough config file looks like in 4.2 I'm getting "NVRM: RmInitAdapter failed! (0x25:0x40:1170)" errors in my...

    Nvidia GPU Passthrough Assistance!

Nope, That didn't do it. Switched them to E1000, still same errors. There are also still a lot of RedHat/Virtio/Qemu references in LSPCI, are these a problem? 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 440FX - 82441FX PMC [Natoma] (rev 02) 00:01.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82371SB PIIX3...

    Nvidia GPU Passthrough Assistance!

Whoops. Moving back here, this was in the wrong thread: So, I have addressed all the above, and gone over the wiki again with a fine toothed comb, just to make sure I haven't made any other silly assumptions, like the one above. Still, I have nothing. I am a booting with OVMF/UEFI, I...

Installing Ubuntu 16.04 in OVMF/UEFI mode Results in bad boot?

Ahh, I did see that, but I thought they were just there as an example file, not as a required setting. I will try that and see if it works. Thank you :)

    Nvidia GPU Passthrough Assistance!

Hmm. Well, I Reinstalled my ubuntu VM in OVMF/UEFI mode, and unfortunately I am still getting the "NVRM: RmInitAdapter failed! (0x25:0x28:1197)" message in dmesg. Things I ahve tried in order to resolve it: Change OS type to "other" Switch to machine q35 and pcie=1 (this now results in the VM...

    Freenas VM reboots after Shutdown

Don't get me wrong. the LSI controllers are both flashed to IT mode, which means they behave as JBOD HBA's. I have heard MANY recommendations against passing through individual disks to FreeNAS or any other ZFS based system. The only appropriate way to virtualize FreeNAS or any other ZFS file...

Installing Ubuntu 16.04 in OVMF/UEFI mode Results in bad boot?

Hmm. I'll try that. I'm not entirely certain how that all works, because my disk is virtio, but the SCSI controller is set to default (LSI 53C895A)

Installing Ubuntu 16.04 in OVMF/UEFI mode Results in bad boot?

Thank you for all of your help. I was finally able to get it to work by editing the boot order options in the proxmox setup screen for the VM. It was not enough that virtio0 was Boot Device 1, but I also had to set boot devices 2 and 3 to "none". Now it works.

Installing Ubuntu 16.04 in OVMF/UEFI mode Results in bad boot?

Alright, so I can make it boot a single time by entering the VM OVMF bios setup screen by pressing DEL and selecting: > Boot Manager > EFI Misc Device So, it seems like I need to set up the boot order in the OVMF VM bios, and I do so by going to: > Boot Maintenance Manager > Boot Options >...

Installing Ubuntu 16.04 in OVMF/UEFI mode Results in bad boot?

So I gave this a try, and it does not appear to be working. So, grubx64.efi is currently located in: /EFI/ubuntu This folder also contains the following files: grub.cfg grubx64.efi MokManager.efi shimx64.efi So I created /EFI/BOOT, and simply copied the grubx64.efi file to...

Installing Ubuntu 16.04 in OVMF/UEFI mode Results in bad boot?

Would it work if I just made a symlink to it instead? That way if the ubuntu/grub64.efi changes, those changes are automatically captured. Does EFI understand symlinks?

Installing Ubuntu 16.04 in OVMF/UEFI mode Results in bad boot?

Thank you for that information. I have two follow up questions if you don't mind. 1.) What causes this? Is it a difference between how OVMF and a bare metal UEFI implementation work? Or is it a bug on Ubuntu's side? 2.) If I copy the EFI file over like this, will update-grub still work...

    Freenas VM reboots after Shutdown

I had the same issue as well. I never wound up finding a fix, as I started discovering massive checksum errors the first time FreeNAS started a scrub. I used iut with two passed through LSI controllers, and this worked perfectly in ESXi previously, but I suffered data loss when I tried this in...

    [SOLVED] 4.2 VGA Passthrough Problems

Iv'e noticed this as well. Passing devices on the same PCI channel (terminology?) no longer seems to work as a one liner. You seem to have to specify each one.

Installing Ubuntu 16.04 in OVMF/UEFI mode Results in bad boot?

Hey all, So I just tried installing Ubuntu in OVMF mode for the first time. I went into the options screen and changed SeaBios to OVMF and then started my install. The install ISO appeared to boot in UEFI mode properly, and th einstall proceeded as normal. The only difference was the...

    Nvidia GPU Passthrough Assistance!

Good advice. I had an email conversation with PNY support today, and they informed me that they have "all of the GT 720 cards we have ever manufactured have a UEFI BIOS", so the rom parser and Techpowerup must both be wrong I guess. I am going to try to reinstall Ubuntu in UEFI mode with OVMF...

    Nvidia GPU Passthrough Assistance!

A few more notes: I've tried the following without success: All nvidia driver versions in 16.04 VM's repository, none work. Tried installing Ubuntu 14.04 in the VM instead. Tried all driver versions, down as low as 340.96, still no success. Tried disabling MSI/MSIX by passing pci-nomsi to...

    Nvidia GPU Passthrough Assistance!

Thanks for the suggestion. When I try this, the VM never becomes available on the network for me to ssh into. I'm not quite sure what goes wrong, as I don't have any console (due to the x-vga=on configuration) so I can't see what is preventing it from working :( There might be something in a...

    Nvidia GPU Passthrough Assistance!

I definitely tried passing it though as a multifunction device, and without PCIe, but I don't think I ever tried removing the Q35 machine setting (I'm not quite sure what this does). I appreciate the recommendation and will try it this evening after work! Thank you.

    Nvidia GPU Passthrough Assistance!

Ahh, never mind. It looks like it definitely lacks UEFI support on the TechPowerup site. My version of the card has a different cooler with a fan, but the PCI id's are identical. There is only one other 1024mb gt720 on tech powerup's site (by MSI) and it also lacks UEFI. Asus's 2GB model...
