Have you installed acpid in the kvm guest ? I had a similar problem and by installing acpid in the Centos guest, shutdown or reboot of the proxmox host was possible w/o hanging.

Try to get at least a server with SATA 3. Or an dedictated real Harware Raid controller.

No, since I was not aware of this "non standard" behavior. I did it the old fashion way during the setup of PVE 1.8. And upgraded the server continuously to latest Version. Maybe I missed to read the PVE documentation. nice friday thomas

I'm using freenas for backup an others. I experienced several network performance issues (nfs, samba). After tuning several options the performance is okay. Check their forum for tuning tips. Freenas is brilliant but not perfect for the use with proxmox.

I had the same problem with the 32bit ISO file of win8 preview. With the 64bit ISO it worked.
