To anyone else reading here is what I did:
$ sudo unlink resolv.conf
Then I manually added nameservers to resolv.conf
$ sudo chmod 755 resolv.conf
$ sudo ip route add default via 192.168.1.1 dev vmbr0
The default gateway didn't persist after I rebooted though, so I added "gateway...
I'm trying to diagnose how/why the Proxmox VE 5.4 host does not have internet but the VMs do.
As a secondary issue, the host keeps deleting /etc/resolv.conf every time I reboot...

I have an Intel NUC8i7BEk with Proxmox 5.4 installed. I've discovered that the onboard ethernet card requires Linux kernel 4.12–4.20, 5.0–5.1 or 5.2-rc+HEAD (according to hxxps://cateee.net/lkddb/web-lkddb/E1000E.html with the card PCI ID 8086 15be).
What's the easiest way to upgrade...
