I can confirm that pfSense with OpenVPN is working in KVM. We have here 1 VM wich runs pfSense and VPN stable since over a half year, if you have questions don't hesitate to ask me ;).

Probably something in your BIOS (CMOS) is messed up. Try to reset the BIOS settings to defaults, then go trough the settings, change everything so that it fits your needs and give it a try. ;)

I tested OpenFiler now a bit and I can say for small business users it's a good and fast storage-solution. ;) At home I would prefer FreeNAS.
