What determines the size of local storage on installation?

I would've never found this without your help. Thank you so much! For those seeking the same answer maxroot Defines the maximum size of the root volume, which stores the operation system. The maximum limit of the root volume size is hdsize/4.

What determines the size of local storage on installation?

What determines the size of the local storage on installation? Does it scale? I notice if installing to a 1TB disk, it uses about 100gb for local. Installing to a 240GB disk uses 58GB for the local. I want to do some installations on bigger disks but I don't want a gigantic local drive on them...

    Proxmox for Android issue

Even further investigation... Apparently, during an overnight backup job to an external HDD, the drive failed/errored in such a way that the whole node was messed up (the backup job was still "going" but actually hanging in some endless loop). Attempt to remotely soft power off the server...

    Proxmox for Android issue

Further investigation shows that none of the VMs on server 2 are showing in the Proxmox for Android app, probably generating these messages, but I have no idea why this is the case it how to correct it. Google search yields no relevant results. And everything on that server seems to be working fine.

    Proxmox for Android issue

I have a 3 node cluster that I normally access with the Proxmox for Android app. I'm suddenly having a weird issue after logging in. I get assaulted with repeated msgs saying Failed Assertion: boolean expression must not be null I'm not sure what it means, how to correct it, or how it was...

noVNC problem after SSH key creation

I did as you instructed and ran "pvecm updatecerts" on all nodes, but the problem persists. Would using terminal commands to generate a keypair overwrite the "authorized keys" link? I did add the new key to the /etc/pve/priv/authorized_keys file, so the keys work to login via SSH, but maybe I...

noVNC problem after SSH key creation

I believe I may have inadvertently broken something related to noVNC inside my Proxmox. Today, I created SSH keys for all 3 nodes, generating keypairs. I have a feeling this broke something, as I overwrote the file ~/.ssh/id_*.pub.ssh/id_*.pub when generating the keypairs (were there Proxmox...

    CPU Limit with Hosting Practices

I have a a couple of dozen clients utilizing VMs on my Proxmox cluster. I've made a practice of always setting resource limits for VMs, at half the core count. So if it is an 8 core VM, I will set the CPU Limit to 4. I have a client using 4 Windows VMs, maxing out the CPUs with something Twitch...

How to handle VMs using lots of CPU

Yes, you can adjust the CPU limit on a running a VM. This is actually an excellent idea.

How to handle VMs using lots of CPU

I'm still pretty new to Proxmox but have been learning rapidly. I have concerns with some user's VMs utilizing large, continuous amounts of CPU. I have been only allowing 75% for the CPU Limits (eg. A 4 Core VM will have a 3 as CPU limit. a 2 Core VM will have 1.5 as CPU limit). I've also been...

    Slow backups/restores

Backups are very fast as long as one has been performed already but I am suffering from very slow restore times. Restoring from a backup seems to takes hours on end for VMs (300GB VM disks with about 150GB of data used) and I'm wondering if this is expected behavior. All disks are SSDs. If so...

Windows VM issues when CPU set to Host

Dual CPUs, Xeon 5690s in a poweredge r710 with h700 raid card. . Also to note, this only becomes an issue with a fresh windows installation. After the installation is complete, it reboots into endless fatal errors (kmode exceptions). If the install is done, with say, KVM64 as the processor, then...

Elaborate on IO delay in server summary

I'm curious about the actual meaning of the IO delay in the Server's Summary. For example, when I clone a VM from a template, I expect high IO. All my clone templates are on it's own dedicated drive. When I clone a VM from one of these templates, the IO delay for the node hops up as high as...

    IP Spoofing IPSet not working?

I'm such a dummy. I didn't know you had to tick a box on the actual virtual network device of the VM. Lesson learned. Thanks for the responses. o_Oo_O:eek::eek::eek:

    IP Spoofing IPSet not working?

Yes. I checked the box and it's made no difference. I can still switch IPs in the VM. Here are screenshots of some of my settings. VM Datacenter Node
