Kernel 6.8.12-12-pve Update results in VFIO PCI passthrough issues

I'm not alone :D I'm on the same boat but with a modern intel system. Intel 13900, z790 chipset, X710 nic. https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/regression-cannot-start-vms-with-kernel-6-8-12-12-pve-and-6-14-8-1-bpo12-pve-and-pci-passthrough-sr-iov-x710-vf.168514/

Regression. Cannot start VMs with kernel 6.8.12-12-pve and 6.14.8-1-bpo12-pve and pci-passthrough sr-iov X710 VF

Ok. Proxmox 6.8.12-11 works fine but 6.8.12-12 fails. There's definitely some regression for me on 6.8.12-12 and 6.14.8-1-bpo12-pve.

Regression. Cannot start VMs with kernel 6.8.12-12-pve and 6.14.8-1-bpo12-pve and pci-passthrough sr-iov X710 VF

I just compiled kernel 6.15.6 and it's working fine. I'm really scratching my head.

Regression. Cannot start VMs with kernel 6.8.12-12-pve and 6.14.8-1-bpo12-pve and pci-passthrough sr-iov X710 VF

With the Proxmox kernels 6.14.4-1-pve, 6.14.5-1-bpo12-pve, and my self-compiled 6.14.8 kernel, I can successfully start any VM that uses PCI passthrough for a VF from my Intel X710 NIC. However, with the 6.14.8-1-bpo12-pve kernel, any VM that attempts to use PCI passthrough for a VF from the...

Nvidia 5000 series passthrough , failing miserably.

Good. I have no idea what that means but good for you :D EDIT: I remember that the following is also required. Without "PCI-Express" it did not work for me. (The "primary gpu" maybe is not required but it works so I left it alone)

Nvidia 5000 series passthrough , failing miserably.

I have experience with both MSI and Gigabyte but honestly it will not matter. PVE latest, absolutely self compiled stock kernel 6.14.8, qemu latest. There's no bug as far I can tell. You simply have to find the combination that works. In theory my config should work for you. Rebar is enabled...

Nvidia 5000 series passthrough , failing miserably.

No issue over here !! nvidia driver is installed in proxmox, working, I then unload the driver and start the vm. Options I use for the proxmox nvidia driver in /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-options.conf options nvidia_modeset hdmi_deepcolor=0 conceal_vrr_caps=1 options nvidia_drm modeset=1 I leave...

Nvidia 5000 series passthrough , failing miserably.

Sorry I can't help more. I don't use windows, I'm sorry. At least give a linux distro a try like cachyos just to have a reference. All I can say is that I do not bind vfio at all on boot, I have nvidia driver installed on proxmox and loaded with modeset=1. When I start my guest I unload the...

6.14.6 is the minimum required to have the vfio patch incorporated. You see the tianocore bios logo after running the nvidia utility, right?

For the 5060 series there's this update directly from nvidia. I now finally have VM bios screen. Rombar and PCI-express have to be ticked on!

The kernel patch is available and working well. Give it a try with your 9070 XT.

Opt-in Linux 6.14 Kernel for Proxmox VE 8 available on test & no-subscription

Yes, that's it pretty much ( it repeats 2 or 3 times ) and VM crashes. I have. The revert patch is for both commits. I went down the rabbit hole. Vanilla 6.14.4 still crashed. I'm now running vanilla 6.14.4 with both commits reverted atm and no more crash. I have opened a bugzilla about this.

Opt-in Linux 6.14 Kernel for Proxmox VE 8 available on test & no-subscription

GPU passthrough from pre 6.12 upwards crashes my linux VMs (I have no idea what happens in windows, I don't use it) - I found the problematic kernel commit: Problematic commit This commit produces an instant VM crash in certain gpu utilizations (in my case a simple youtube video on brave...

Nvidia 5000 series passthrough , failing miserably.

Well, progress but it's a compromise. I'm using linux guest btw. I'm not able to see tianocore bios screen so you have to prepare the vm using some virtual gpu first and install the nvidia driver. You have to untick rombar when adding the gpu!!! As soon the nvidia driver loads inside the VM...

Nvidia 5000 series passthrough , failing miserably.

I'm trying..... My 4060ti 8GB works perfectly but I wanted to have 16GB of vram so I got the 5060ti 16GB. I have never had an nvidia that I could not passthough from 10XX, 20xx, 30xx and 40xx but I cannot with this 5060ti. With original vbios, modded vbios. uefi...csm... The monitor turns on but...
