PBS RAM usage

I'm using an old ESXi server to run Proxmox Backup Server. It has 192GB of RAM but never uses more than about 99GB (according to the Memory usage graph on the Server Administration page). I'm assuming most of that is just caching indexes and whatnot, but it seems like it should be able to use as much as is available. Is there a setting that keeps it from using more RAM?

This should do it so the defaults are used which should be more than just 50% nowadays
Bash:
rm -f /etc/modprobe.d/zfs.conf
update-initramfs -ukall
reboot
You might have to update the bootloader too.

Also check this before and after
Bash:
zarcsummary -s arc | less
You can also set it live. For example with this.

@Onslow Or you can get the link from the TOC and link to it or to the docs about it :)

The current default of arc cache is 90%, thus removing the file like described by impact should do the trick.

"all_system_memory - 1 GiB" - Wow! I didn't notice that one yet.

This shows how confident the developers are, that release/shrink memory of ARC does really work nowadays :)
Though... I would not bet my cluster on that assumption...

@Impact Thanks for pointing that :)

In my defense:
while composing that previous post I searched for the detailed link in the first document and there was no ToC at all. Now I've had a closer look at that page and can see that this was due to Javascript.

Whereas in the Proxmox VE Administration Guide there is only a broad entry in the ToC: 3.9. ZFS on Linux.
After manual searching one can find "Limit ZFS Memory Usage" subsection indeed. Then only if one happens by accident to come across the place at the right end of this caption with the mouse, a tooltip appears, which reveals that a permalink exist.
