Hi I tried to subscribe, but my subscription was cancelled as I am a Consumer and don't have a vat number.
This would be my 2nd subscription, as I recently got another machine. My 1st subscription is still working fine and I didn't have to worry about vat numbers.

I am confused as I am in the UK and the UK is not in the EU and the faq's say this.
Consumers (non-taxable person): No VAT will be applicable.

What is the best way to go about getting a subscription as a Consumer?

Thanks, had a chat and found I now need to order from a UK Reseller.
I ordered it yesterday, but because they don't have it in stock, have been quoted a delivery time of 3 days, hopefully it will be quicker.

looks like it's the result of VAT rules the UK brought in since I previously ordered my previous subscription, are the cause.
These rules have also made it impossible for me to buy things from quite a few non UK retailers, so can't blame proxmox.

still it is a hassle and makes me question whether or not I should buy a community subscription.

That is actually why I didn’t renew my community subscription years ago. They really should make it easier for individual users to purchase a community subscription, because I’m certainly not going to hunt down resellers—many, if not all, of whom are clearly only targeting business customers—and then engage with them via email or phone like it was 1990, just to support a project that I can already use for free. ;)

Either I can subscribe and unsubscribe via a simple online form in five minutes, basically like with a Netflix subscription, or I just won’t. Sorry, Proxmox.

Shouldn't shop.proxmox.com work that way?
Yes, it does. In fact, that's exactly what I used from 2017 to 2019 when it was still under maurer-it.com. However, just like with OP, suddenly they asked for a VAT number. Obviously, I don't have one as a home user. After telling them this, they said:

“You can support us by purchasing our products through one of our partners in Switzerland.”

That was in 2020 when the subscription was due for renewal. I didn't do it for the reasons mentioned in my previous post. Since then, I've just been running Proxmox without a subscription.

Btw, I just checked, the cost for one machine was €79.90 back in 2019. Now, with VAT, it would be almost double that. And because I have a total of three machines now, it would definitely be too expensive.

However, if it were possible to purchase through their store now without a Swiss VAT number, I might consider buying a subscription for one machine again to support the project. I would probably still use the non-subscription repositories on all three machines, though.
