After being a bit inspired by the awesome Nimble Plugin that was released I decided to use a little of my downtime on Vacation to try and give the same thing a go, but using Synology/DSM as the storage backend. This will allow you to use iSCSI instead of NFS and get the storage array based snapshots.

I've tested it as best I can and it works quite well. You need to create the initial target in DSM so the plugin has something to connect to. Don't forget to set the Target to allow multiple connections or you could accidentally cause some corruption.

Give it a go

Hi,

Just note for anyone who will use it on Btrfs (default fs for Synology), be careful with the 'storage array based snapshots'.
Avoid long term snapshots and large chains, be careful with automatic scrubbing and check Btrfs health permanently (if you already jumped in to this train).
Btrfs implementation in Synology is bit fragile)
