I'm almost afraid to say this but I'm running PBS on an old HP Workstation Z400 (Intel Xenon W3565 processor). The system is on an SSD and the data on a zfs raidz-2 (4 disks) volume.

Has anyone tried to upgrade some similar old piece of junk to PBS 4?

Ps. I'm saying "old piece of junk", which it is, but it's actually doing it's job!

I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work. As a kind of test you could put run a cd or usb stick with Debian Trixe or Ubuntu Noble live system and see whether that works. This won't tell much about PBS but should be sufficient to test whether a newer kernel and Debian than on PBS3 should work
