Hi all,

Here's my problem,
when I test the speed of my server which is with an intel 226-v 2.5gbit card the download speed is not at the maximum whereas the upload is.
Why is this?

Proxmox 8.4.1

I'm on FREE in France with a Freebox ULTRA which has 4 2.5gbit ports .
My speed is 8gbit upload/download.
The speed test from my workstation is OK.
I use a cat 8 cable

More than likely it's the driver.
I don't think so; his local Proxmox test appears normal @ 2.34 GBS. So the NIC is behaving correctly.

I would suppose his Internet (public) download, could somehow be being throttled by other downloads (from that node/guests) at the same time. Many routers balance Internet loads across their clients. Possibly his router, is dividing ISP bandwidth per NIC port.

The OP could also repeat speedtests at different times of the day/week & compare results.

Since you get 2,5Gbit locally, I think your NIC is fine.

Wer misst, misst Mist.

My best guess is something with iperf being single threaded.

I've seen that before, usually with USB3 NICs. More than likely it's the driver.

I've had 0 issues with Intel I225-V

What kernel version are you on?
Linux proxmox 6.8.12-9-pve #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC PMX 6.8.12-9 (2025-03-16T19:18Z) x86_64 GNU/Linux

Try opt-in kernel 6.11 or 6.14, make sure you have a full backup to revert to if needed

Also make sure you're installing iperf3 from source, you want iperf3 3.16 -- the one provided with debian repos (3.12) is a little old
