can't upgrade from 3.1 to 3.3

i want to upgrade from 3.1 to 3.3 , but i get a system up-to date .

after a apt-get update .

run apt-get dist-upgrade. That should upgrade to the latest distro. Have good backup and have your vms turned offn
 
Are you sure that apt-get update is able to fetch the package list? No error during this phase? Is the only thing that comes to my mind, if the system is telling that is uptodate menas that the comparison between your packages and the ones on the fetched list are the same, and since you are at 3.1, probably those lists are not been fetched properly.

apt-get update didn't return any errors . that is very strange .
 
Do you tryed to flush the apt cache?
