Are you using Ceph 20.2.x as EC got major improvement with 20.2.x ? If you are mixing drives, expect the storage to be as "fast" as the slowest disk. Maybe instead of mixing disks you could create different pools with different crush rules...

In order to update to PVE 8.4 (which is, or is about to be, out of support) you need to update to the latest 7.4.x (see the guide), which you have not done for years. Maybe start a new (supported) 9.2 cluster and see if you still have this issue...

Welcome to the forum, SpiceGuy, I think the part that's causing you some confusion here is that an LXC container has its own filesystem namespace. So /tmp inside the container is not the same /tmp you see when you SSH into the Proxmox host...
