Well I can imagine following usecases: You have a local PBS on trusted hardware for fast restores, you would like not to use encryption so even if somehow you lost the key you still have backups and also to reduce CPU load for compression on the...
Its entirely up to you. it is POSSIBLE to set up a hypervisor, a pbs vm, import the data, and restore- but by that logic you could just rebuild all your vms from scratch too. your RTO/RPO policies are your own.
In regard to the discussion: I remember that @Falk R. mentioned several times in the German forum that using ZFS on HW RAID is ok if (and only if):
You know what you are doing (which imho doesn't hold true for people calling others "dogmatic"...
I've often said that I am a ZFS fan. But hey, this is not the Butlerian Jihad with "filesystems" as the topic.
The system I am using in this very moment has a normal ext4 filesystem :-)
I think it's rather odd to call people "dogmatic" who don't want people to risc their data due to not following best practices. If this is dogmatic I'm a dogmatic too and would prefer not to get insulted for trying to keep people from getting burnt.
Given the scope of this project, it might be worth considering a proper subscription and opening a support ticket before finalizing the proposal.
Since this is a client-facing production migration with downtime constraints, backup implications...
A possible mitigation is to set a quota on your datastores filesystem. All modern Linux filesystems have that feature:
https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/proxmox-backup-server-3-1-2-set-zfs-quotas.139917/
https://linux.die.net/man/8/xfs_quota...
The point is: you can not know that.
Of course you are free to use any available technology you want - and a lot of installations are using hardware Raid (edit: ... without a checksumming filesystem). No fight here; if it works for you/them...
Where did you read that? https://pdm.proxmox.com/docs/installation.html#system-requirements doesn't have this.
It mentiones a nic as minimum requirement since you will obviouvsly need one for a bare-metal non-virtualized install. The...
@UdoB a number of studies done during Dr Steve Hetzler's time at IBM research. All (or mostly all ;) ) on archive.org.... smorgastor.drhetzler.com
When I find some Round Tuits I'll try to dredge up what I've got.
For a fully redundant corosync, use at least two logically and physically independent links.
Management. That will be populated automatically by PVE on install using the IP address you configure during setup.
Yes, but you should add at least a...
If your goal is to provide redundancy for two physical NICs and use multiple VLANs on them, Proxmox can do this without SDN in most cases.
A common approach is as follows:
Use bonding for NIC redundancy,
create VLAN interfaces on that bonding...
Meh. Another example why these "bullshit as a service"-providers are actually not that helpful. Depending on your usecase, regulations and operating systems stop might actually be more safe. Both variants have their own up- and downsides. It...
Imho you don't get much that way because at some point the kernel 6.17 won't get this updates anymore. So imho pinning proxmox-default-kernel gives a kind of wrong security feel. But to be honest in the end it boils down to personal preference...
