    Thanks sooo much for this! My nested hyper-v virtualization just stopped working with the recent PVE 5.3 updates so I gave in and tried moving the VMs over but I couldn't get them to boot at all until I found this. So ymmv but I can confirm that these steps work for Windows Server 2016...

    From my understanding and test machine that I run in VirtualBox Raid-Z1 is the equivalent of Raid-5 without the I/O penalty. When I start the install in VirtualBox I have Raid-Z1 as a storage setup option. Google non standard raid levels for more info
