Started with Hyper-V, moved to Virtualbox, then ESXi, XCP-NG, and finally Proxmox. And I like Proxmox the most. It seems most fitting for my home environment.
And there's no silly additional program to install just for a nice GUI. The GUI is built right into the webpage.
