One of the best ways to get out and enjoy the great outdoors is to backpack into remote wilderness. This ensures that you won't encounter a lot of other people. But backpacking requires that you plan your trip carefully and pack your gear with extreme weight prejudice. You won't be able to carry everything you want on your back into the backcountry, so you need to trim excess weight whenever you can.
One area that you can usually save a few pounds is in the sleeping bag category. Sleeping bags that are suitable for backpacking need to be lightweight and compact enough to not take up a lot of space in your pack. Most bags now-a-days can be compressed with straps or bags. But the lightweight aspect is something that you will have to specifically seek out.
