Can someone clarify why for Windows Server 2022 guests the OS type defaults to same as Windows 11 ?
My understanding is that Windows Server 2022 is based on Windows 10 LTSC 2021.

I am just curious.
Because it actually works well in both cases (using VirtIO SCSI for disk and virtio for network):
Windows 11 type: q35, OVMF (UEFI), TPM 2.0 (Secure Boot), GPT
Windows 10 type: i440fx, SeaBios, MBR

I have the same question :)
For me Win2022 should be on ostype: win10, because his kernel is based on 21H2_build_19044 (same as Windows 10 LTSC 2021)

Shh, windows 11 is windows 10 with a small number change.... for marketing purposes...

To answer your question - Windows 11 IMO you want that UEFI, TPM and GPT for long term reasons as those have been expected on server OS much longer than on client OS....
