This morning, I got kernel 6.6.2 as an update on a Fedora 39 desktop machine for the first time. This made me wonder, whether Proxmox will switch to kernel 6.6 for PVE 8.1 anytime soon?! Because, 6.6 kernel series is officially a LTS series that will be maintained by the upstream kernel developers for three years (see News on heise.de) while 6.5.11 is not an LTS release. Any thoughts or insights?

Hi,

The kernel used for all Proxmox products is always based on the latest Ubuntu kernel, with some additional patches on top. The current Ubuntu 23.10 release features the 6.5 kernel, thus this kernel is used.

See also the Proxmox VE Kernel page in our wiki, which also outlines this.
