I install proxmox ve from a usb flash drive. After installation I login as root with my password when I boot into the system. Nothing pops up. No gui interface. I connected via wi fi and lan ethernet, but nothing changes. What can I do? Please give me more details about what to do, since I am new to gnu/linux.

Hi,

I think that one cat command should probably be cat /etc/network/interfaces. That should display the network config.

When you log in, can you ping anything (e.g.: ping 8.8.8.8)?

What happens if you try to go to https://192.168.100.2:8006? Can you ping 192.168.100.2 from another device on your network?

Oh and please remove the "Tutorial" tag from this thread, otherwise you won't get as much help and it's also misleading for other users.

You are using the default "192.168.100.2/24" IP/CIDR with means only clients can access the webUI/SSH that are part of that subnet. So if your client doesn't got a "192.168.100.3" to "192.168.100.254" IP it won't be able to access the server.

It is normal that you do not have a GUI on the PVE-host itself.
You need to use another machine in the same subnet and open the URL stated on the screen of the PVE-host in a web browser.
Provided that your network configuration is correct; which probably also is not. See the other posts.

I entered the commands as you advised and this is what came up: IMG_20220905_232117.jpgIMG_20220905_233422.jpgIMG_20220905_231154.jpgThe image in foreign language is pinging from another computer in the same wi-fi network.

Hi,

while I can't understand the screenshot from your windows machine, I'd imagine it says something like "Cannot reach Host"?

It seems your network is mis-configured. You probably need to check your router and give the Proxmox host a fixed IP. Then configure that IP in the /etc/network/interfaces file. The number behind the slash will also depend on your router's settings, but "24" tends to be a default. At this point also make sure that the gateway setting is correct! You can then reload the configuration with ifreload -a.

You can check if everything worked by utilizing the ping commands again.

Hello, new to proxmox and linux. Need help.
Can't access the GUI. attached SS.

Your DHCP server is set to assign clients a IP in the range of 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254 so you actually can't use static IPs, as there are no free IPs. I would reserve a IP range for static IPs. Something like 192.168.1.51 to 192.168.1.254 for the DHCP server so you got 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.50 for static IPs and 192.168.1.51 to 192.168.1.254 for DHCP. Otherwise you can run into the problem where your DHCP server is assigning some client the IP 192.168.1.4 and your PVe server then tries to use the same IP and you run into problems.

And did you really try to open this link: https://192.168.1.4:8006 ? Without the https or the port it won't work.

Hi,
I changed the IP range fom router of DHCP to 192.168.1.9 to 192.168.1.254 and now I can access web GUI at the same IP https://192.168.1.4:8006.
Thanks for the help. This thread is really great for Beginners.
