Hi,

We use usbdrives for our backups.
They almost die more quickly then I can replace them.
Sometimes they last 6 months.
Yesterday one lasted an hour.

I take a new drive plug them in, and do "mkfs.ext3 /dev/sdc1"
It starts to partition it etc and thats it.
Anything wrong with that method?

I recommend you to do SMART Test on your drive, because you have I/O errors.
" lost page write due to I/O error on sdb1"
