Hi,

I have a problem with some servers using proxmox 1.9 on dell poweredge t310 with Intel CORE Processor.

pve-manager: 1.9-26 (pve-manager/1.9/6567)
running kernel: 2.6.32-7-pve
proxmox-ve-2.6.32: 1.9-55+ovzfix-2
pve-kernel-2.6.32-4-pve: 2.6.32-33
pve-kernel-2.6.32-7-pve: 2.6.32-55+ovzfix-2
qemu-server: 1.1-32
pve-firmware: 1.0-15
libpve-storage-perl: 1.0-19
vncterm: 0.9-2
vzctl: 3.0.29-3pve1
vzdump: 1.2.6-1
vzprocps: 2.0.11-2
vzquota: 3.0.12-3
pve-qemu-kvm: 0.15.0-2
ksm-control-daemon: 1.0-6

I use KVM to create Windows 2003 32bits guest or Windows 2008 R2 64bits guest.

i see in syslog most perfctr wrmsrs failed command :

__ratelimit: 173 callbacks suppressed
kvm: 3362: cpu1 unimplemented perfctr wrmsr: 0xc1 data 0xffffffffff1b1e41
kvm: 3362: cpu1 unimplemented perfctr wrmsr: 0x186 data 0x5100c0
kvm: 3362: cpu1 unimplemented perfctr wrmsr: 0xc1 data 0x0
kvm: 3362: cpu1 unimplemented perfctr wrmsr: 0xc1 data 0x0
kvm: 3362: cpu1 unimplemented perfctr wrmsr: 0x186 data 0x5100c0
kvm: 3362: cpu1 unimplemented perfctr wrmsr: 0xc1 data 0x0

kvm: 3362: cpu1 unimplemented perfctr wrmsr: 0xc1 data 0x0
kvm: 3362: cpu1 unimplemented perfctr wrmsr: 0xc1 data 0xffffffffff1b1e41

sometimes, the number of callbacks suppressed is verry verry big... (819325 callbacks suppressed...)

This message was arrived when Kaspersky End Point Security 8.1.0.831 is installed on my Windows guest (32 and 64bits), and, my guest froozen, not stable, ...
when i closed Kaspersky Service, the message disappears and guest rules with best perf.

With AMD Processor, no problemo :)

An idea ?

I can't upgrade for the moment, i have 70 servers all around france...

Do you have an explication of the problem ? KVM not include perfctr function ?

This is just a debug message - you can safely ignore it.

Yes i see and i have search in google for this message, but, it's not normal after installing Kaspersky, the message appears and the VM network brooken sometimes (ping loss) or VM instability...

I'm thinking to filter in syslog the messages, the number of callback suppressed is very big (greather than 80 000) and can use hard disk access / cpu time ?

Re,

I have run my VM in ssh with -cpu host option to test and to get the same of cpu hyperviser, so, when my guest run, i have Intel XEON xxx CPU between Qemu Virtual Cpu in Windows (2003/2008 32-64bits), good.

I continue to have messages in syslog but less than 100 now... :) my system rules with best perf, no network freeze, etc..., good :)

cpu option in KVM use internal instruction of cpu ? right ? so qemu64 as a big problem with the Performance Monitor Unit integrated in P6 familly...

I repeate, with AMD Processor, Proxmox 1.9 (same version of dell poweredge t310 i used), and the same configuration Windows, NO PROBLEME, no messages in dmesg, no lag, ...

Thanks for all reply.
