Vanilla install of 7.x upgraded to 8.0.4. Was surprised to see the following error on a package update.
72 upgraded, 10 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 396 MB of archives.
After this operation, 850 MB of additional disk space will be used.
E: You don't have enough free space in /var/cache/apt/archives/.

Hi,

/dev/mapper/pve-root 65G 63G 0 100% /
Your root device is completely full. That's why.

As @leesteken mentioned, moving backups to a separate disk is encouraged anyway, that should also solve that problem.
Moving e.g. the ISOs to some other storage is another thing you could do.

Thanks @cheiss and @leesteken. Correct, one of my VM's backups was consuming all the space. Looking at the backup configuration, how can I select another larger local disk for backups? Screenshot 2024-01-26 at 9.12.56 PM.png

Is the "another larger local disk" added as a Storage under Datacenter in the Proxmox web GUI? Make sure to enable VZDump backup file in the pull-down menu of Content field. It needs to be a Directory storage (or similar) to allow storing files: https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/pve-admin-guide.html#chapter_storage
