We just moved our latest kernel to the stable repository. This one is based on the latest stable OpenVZ kernel.

Release notes

- pve-kernel-2.6.32 (2.6.32-55+ovzfix-2)

  • update to vzkernel-2.6.32-042stab049.6.src.rpm
  • do not disable CONFIG_RT_GROUP_SCHED (use standard openvz setting)
  • remove intel IDE-R support patches (now in upstream)
  • enable usbip module
  • use ARECA RAID card driver from upstream kernel

In this kernel i still have problem with very slow fsync/sec. And the virtual machine write speed is horibble on every server installation
Where is the problem?

seems you are using ext4 instead of the default ext3.?

Anyone know if IPv6+venet works for OpenVZ containers with this kernel? I'm currently sticking to the old 2.6.24-12-pve kernel due to this issue.

You are right. Thanx a lot. It looks promising with ext3 now

Is there really so big difference between ext3 and ext4 performance in OpenVZ? I am using ext4 now because I was hoping for better performance, but have not done extensive testing... so you are saying that I will get significantly better performance if I put the containers on ext3?

so far I always see better performance with ext3. but feel free to do your own benchmarks and report it. but not under this thread as this one is about a new kernel.

Hi,

First of all many thanks for such a good product.

I am experiencing some strange behavior with the new kernel 2.6.32-7 with some Windows Server 2008 R2 Machines. Some Applications in 32bit mode do not run properly. They start and lock the cpu for 100%. On 1 application it tells me "Unable to create com component, because of missing permission. I had this phenomena on 2 machines with different 32 Bit Applications. I tried everything (FS check, Deinstalling AV, Windows Updates, Security Permissions) and was minutes before image restore of the machine as I tried to boot with 2.6.32-4 kernel. And voila the problem was not there...
Maybe some of you have made similar experiences with the new kernel.

Eike

Hello,

I had the same problem today with a Windows 2003 R2 Guest.

I solved it by disabling DEP in Windows (boot.ini /Noexecute=alwaysoff don´t know how to do it in Windows 2008).

Now everything works wonderful and fast.

Greetings
macday

...but still it is strange...

Hi Melisa,
look in /boot/grub/menu.lst - normaly is "default 0" at the beginning (mean the first entry) and the newest kernel the first in the entry-section (app. line 120).

Hello,

i dont have this File on my Hostsystem:

/boot/grub/menu.lst

It is Debian 64 Bit OS with pve-manager/1.9

What ist wrong here? Thank You.

Hi Melisa,
do you have /boot/grub/crub.cfg?
Then the configs are in /etc/grub.d/ and /etc/default/grub

After changes "update-grub" or "update-grub2" executen.

To see which version is running:
Code:
dpkg -l | grep grub
Udo

Updated to 2.6.32-7 from 2.6.32-4, and I'm seeing stutter/buffer/high-io-wait from my Areca 1160 I wasn't seeing before. I'm going to revert to 2.6.32-6 (since it looks like the "use ARECA RAID card driver from upstream kernel" change went in -7) and see if the problem goes away.
