Migrate W2012 R2 from XenServer?, anyone?

Hi,

I have a VM wunning on top of XenCenter and I would like to migrate to Proxmox (USB passthrough on XenCenter sucks). Nevertheless, this is a critical machine and downtime must be kept small. I wanted to ask:

- Is this more or lress straightforward?.
- Have you got any experience with this same scenario (2012R2+XenServer)?.
- Any special aspects to observe (problems to take care of)?.
- Will I face any problems with Windows Licensing or I can keep al ID strings as is to avoid this?.

Also, My machine is currently fed from iSCSI mounted space on a NAS. So OS and data is external to the server. How will this impact the migration process?.

Thanks for the response. I did read all documentation available I found. Neither of my questions regarding licensing and, specially, iSCSI is expained here. I mean, would it be enough to create a new VM on Proxmox and attach the iSCSI-mounted disks (once converted to qcow2 or raw)?. Do I need to uninstall Xentools prior to migration?.

Windows licensing might ask due to changed hardware. But re-attaching the disk should be enough, yes.

But... as I have all my Windows system living on a iSCSI target... How the hell can I convert that to a qcow2 and back to iSCIS?. Perhaps this is a silly question, but I have no clue on how to do this. I am using a QNAP server...

We do always the Clonezillaway:https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Migrat...roxmox_VE_.28KVM.29_using_Clonezilla_Live_CDs Does this not work, use the vmwareconverter. (your format to vmdk, from vmdk to raw from raw to qcow2.

• remove all programms and drivers the can do some troubles, like xentools....
• change all interfaces zu DHCP
• before you convert exexute the following regfile: https://ftp.iteas.at/public/Mergeide.reg
• shutdown the machine to convert with clonezilla, or convert online with vmwareconverter

Have you running your VM after migration on PVE, you can add your iscsistorage to PVE and move the disk by clicking in the webinterface.
