I am a software engineer so I am not as well versed in hardware/systems as some of you.
I just bought a Dell PowerEdge R720 w /12TB of storage
I want to be able to:
  • Test Ansible playbooks for software application install and configs
  • Run some web applications in my home
  • Have decent file storage

Looks like Proxmox is the best environment to do all of that reliably, Is there anything I should keep in mind about the limitation of my setup. Or am I in good shape?

You did not mention CPU, amount of RAM and which kind of storage you have. 16GB RAM is sufficient in most cases. In principle Proxmox VE works with almost any amd64 environment (i.e. also with the mentioned one I assume), if resources are sufficient depends on the needs of the VMs.

Thanks for the response. I should have added this to the original post.
Here are the specs I have out of the box.
  • Dell PowerEdge R720 16B Server
  • 2x E5-2690 v2 3.0GHz 20-Cores Total
  • 48GB DDR3
  • Perc H710P Mini 1GB
  • 2x 750W PSU

Looks fine and there is nothing which indicates that Proxmox should not work. Just a remark regarding disks: since you use a RAID controller do not use ZFS!
