Hello, I'm new to Proxmox and PBS. I have recently installed PBS on a VM on my PVE1 and I am starting to do my first backups. I wanted to test backup encryption, so I added my PBS to the datacenter and auto-generated a key in the encryption tab. Now I see that my backups are encrypted, but I can restore them without being asked for a key at any point. Is this because the key is saved on my PC, or is this not how encryption is supposed to work?

Key is stored on PVE, so you only need to provide that key once when adding the PBS storage to PVE.

when setting up the encryption key via the Proxmox VE storage, the key will be stored in /etc/pve/auth/storage/<your-storage-name>.enc and you should not be asked for a key on restore. If you want to restore to a different host, not being part of the same cluster, than you will have to provide the key, yes
