I have 2 identical pieces of hardware, created 2 nodes (n1 and n2) and set up the network interfaces the same way using the 3 cable method: https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Virtualizing_pfSense_on_Proxmox. Both are on the same subnet (n1 = 192.168.1.10 / n2 = 192.168.1.20) using an unmanaged switch.

Works, no problem.

I installed pfSense on n1 and configured it as follows: WAN = 192.168.1.1 / LAN = 192.168.2.1

Works, no problem.

I installed Ubuntu on n2 and gave it a static address of 192.168.2.10

Problems begin.

With the Ubuntu, I am able to access the pfSense control panel (192.168.2.1) but nothing else. When in the pfSense control panel, I am able to ping 8.8.8.8 using the LAN successfully but not with the terminal in Ubuntu.

I created a new Ubuntu on n1 (static address 192.168.2.11) and everything worked right away.

When the virtual machine is not on the node as pfSense, I am not able to access the internet. How would I set it up so I am able to access the internet from a VM located on a different node than pfSense?

I solved my own problem by getting an old pc with 2 nics and using that as the pfSense firewall.
