[SOLVED] Windows Guests crashing during backup

I have RAM on the way and in the meantime, I am limiting ARC to 16 GB but I still have the problem. Backing up uses all the RAM and system is shutting down a VM. This just started happening in the last week. Been running fine for the previous six months. Here is the output of "top" during a...

[SOLVED] Windows Guests crashing during backup

Thank you Moayad, These machines have 64GB. ZFS grabs up to 32GB and the VMs are allocated a total of 40GB (no ballooning) so it looks like ZFS is not releasing RAM fast enough during a backup. I'll get some more RAM anyway.

[SOLVED] Windows Guests crashing during backup

Hi everyone, The last couple of weeks we are having random crashes of various windows 2016 guests when the backup runs. They do not always crash and not always the same guest. The Windows guest log has: The previous system shutdown at 12:10:47 PM on 1/14/204 was unexpected. Proxmox log has...

    Firewall rules for port 22

Hello everyone, I have two sites, each running proxmox behind a NAT firewall which is on the internet with static IP's. I am planning on backing up each site to the other via PVE-zsync by forwarding port 22 to each proxmox server and pointing pve-zsync to the static IP of the other site. I...

    ZFS enhancement

I have been struggling with the "delicacy" of ZFS. Specifically large write loads bringing the system to a halt (addressed in another thread) and the difficulty in zfs-sync and zfs-replication to handle broken pipes. In regards to the latter I found this...

Can I use Clorosync to replicate files?

Hello everyone, I want to replicate some bash scripts between nodes and thought it would be a great idea to create a folder in /etc/pve for this. It worked but the files are not executable and I cannot change permissions to make them so. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to do this? Thank...

Proxmox lockup and recovery - ZFS related?

Hello everyone, I setup a new Proxmox box and was transferring data from another server (heavy network and disk load) when I lost all network connectivity. I could not ping the host or the guests. After about 30 minutes it came back alive! In the logs I found this: [Jul 28 22:55:32 <local...

    PVE-zsync

This is exciting! I've waiting for this. Is PVE-zsync related to zsync https://kparal.wordpress.com/2009/09/01/zsync-transfer-large-files-efficiently/, http://zsync.moria.org.uk/? Has anyone been using this? Kevin

RAID 5 poor performance compared to RAID 1

I think it may be hardware related. I have not heard good things about the H310 in RAID 5 mode. We have old HP P400's and the RAID 5 is faster than RAID 1 (I do not have the numbers handy) but RAID 6 falls of the proverbial performance cliff.

Almost got it. If I start the VM manually with "/usr/bin/kvm ...... -M pc-i440fx-1.7" the machine comes up activated. Now I just need to figure out how to get this in the conf file so it happens automatically. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

ProxMox 3.2 to 3.3, impressions and a problem

Well I to stepped into this trap and have painfully discovered that with Windows 2008 R2 Retail there is a limited number of re-activations I can do. I am now facing purchasing a new license! Does anyone have any ideas on how to avoid this in future upgrades and how to resolve this on our...
