VNC Fails

I shutdown my VM's and then restarted them, but VNC is failing.

It looks like the VNC proxy failed. I am running 2.6.35-1-pve. Can someone tell how to fix this?

What output do you get when you start a proxy manually:

# qm vncproxy 104

(you can simply abort with ctrl-c)

if a VM is stopped no VNC viewer can connect - behavior by design.

I still have the problem. It does not matter which vm I start none of them will let me connect via vnc.

I have not done anything to the proxmox server. My VMs have been running fine. So, I decided to move VMs to production server and shut them down. I remembered that I needed to add one thing to a VM and started it backup. That's when I found the vnc would not start.

I really need to move my VMs to a production box. However, I do not want to do that until this vnc issue is resolved. Has anyone else had this happen?

I got the same problem and I guess the cause is a combination of "browser+java+plataform" or something near this.

What browser are you using?
What JVM plugin is installed on your browser?
What is your S.O. used to access the webconsole??
When you access the "Open VNC Console", the popup only show you a grey empty screen?

I think the problem occurs when you try to access the "VNC Console" via web interface and the Java VNC Applet is not installed or run correctly. After that all your VMs fail to "open an VNC port". Maybe when it fails the first time, something happens with kvm vnc proxy...

Try to reboot the proxmox ve server and access your VMs with another browser, or use another browser on another plataform.

Here in my study lab I was opening the console with Chrome+SunJava+Linux and the problem occurs, but when I tried with "Chrome+SunJava+Windows" the problem did NOT occur .

Look, I'm NOT telling here that the VNC Console will not work with "Chrome+SunJava+Linux" and will only work on "Chrome+SunJava+Windows", this was just my case.

BTW I'm running ProxMox VE v1.7

Yes, I only get a grey screen.

As far as I remember Ubuntu installs the free java version/browser plugin by default. so if you install the sun-java6-plugin it will still not work because Firefox still loads the old one - so you need to remove the free one. If you cannot figure it out pls send me what Ubuntu version do you use and I will send you more details.

g0rt3k: You were right. I tried my wife's windows laptop ( First time I used windows since 1996) and it worked. Re-installed java. I use Sun jdk & jre. Re-installed sun plugin and now it works! BTW, I use firefox+SUN java+linux. Never could get the VNC to work with Chrome. I always get the grey screen :-(
