Hey everyone,
I need a Ubuntu Desktop VM on my Proxmox.
Im using 18.04
I have no trouble installing it using all default settings, but when I try to boot it gets stuck at the message "/dev/sda1 clean, 129812/2097152 files, 1558358/8388096 blocks".
I can switch to tty2 via alt-key and left or right key and log in. But thats not what I want I could have installed ubuntu server if I only need command line.

Try a new vm and verify the image before creating the vm, that would be the easiest way. If you want to debug it, use the tty2 to do so, but it's probably not worth the time if you don't have anything setup already.

Just a guess, did you install any drivers on that machine, they may be the cause of the xserver not starting.

just go to hardware and change display setting from default to VMware compatible
it works for me

Having the same issue. Brand new machine, proxmox install, RAID 10 SSDs. Ubuntu 18.04 Desktop install successfully. Occurs with two brand new VM fresh installs.

Confirming VMware compatible works.

Maybe it helps also to disable all effects.
Code:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface enable-animations false

In the Create section, the Guest OS -> type is unbutu you have chosen? the other thing is your version is new or old, your iso image file has been checked yet? Make sure everything is well prepared

Have you already tried Spice as Graphicscard? This is what i do with my DeskopVM's. So far it works wonderfully with all desktops.

EDIT: Spice works, VirIO GPU works also, Default did not work.
