Temporarily backup/migrate VM zvols

Hey,
A node in my 3-node cluster died and i want to use this maintenance window to restructure the other two nodes as well. Currently i'm using a ZFS raidz2 rpool automatically configured while using the installer. This is also the VM store and therefore the VMs are ZVOLs. The daily VM backup dumps are living on a Gluster share created from ZFS datasets of every node. This works fine and can be rsync'ed without problem. Can i recreate the VM ZVOLs from these snapshot dumps on the newly set up nodes or do i need to send-and-receive the ZVOLs to another ZFS and send-and-receive back? I do have a TrueNAS which can be used for send and receive but the file based VZdumps are easier to handle in my use case.

Thanks in advance,
Marco

If you can live with the longer time it takes to create and restore VZdump backups, go for it. It gives you more flexibility.

If you want to use ZFS snapshots to send/recv the ZVOL datasets, you need to take care of the VM config files yourself and place the zvols correctly afterwards again or adapt the /etc/pve/storage.cfg and/or VM config.
