Hi all,

I am new here so first of all please forgive me in case of stupid questions.
I am looking to build a small home server for usual "fun" stuff, here are the questions:

- in case I want to run multiple VMs do I need more than 1 LAN interface? (or in case I have say 1 Lan and 10 VMs only drawback will be limited bandwidth as it will be shared?)
- I want to use GPU acceleration in at least 1 VM: I read here and there but I can't understand if:
  • does proxmox support Vega graphics integrated in AMD Ryzen CPU?
  • do I need a separe PCIe graphic card to pass it to a VM?
  • is Intel virtualization technology better supported with respect to AMD? (I am an occasional user hence I would prefer simplicity :) )
thank you very much in advance if you would like to clarify!

You can use the one interface and as you guessed correctly, the bandwidth will be shared.

Proxmox VE passes through a PCI device. It does not really care much what it is.

do I need a separe PCIe graphic card to pass it to a VM?
If you want to keep a GPU for the server itself then yes. But you have to see if both PCI slots will be in separate IOMMU groups. See our docs: https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/pve-admin-guide.html#qm_pci_passthrough

If you want to use the onboard audio device you have to check if it is in it's separate IOMMU group as well.

is Intel virtualization technology better supported with respect to AMD?
Shouldn't make a difference.

Hi aaron,

thank you very much for your answer.
So basically for GPU this means:
  1. I need 1 GPU per VMs +1 GPU for server (in case)
    • point about IOMMU is clear
  2. what about iGPU?
    • I read somewhere (but honestly not clear to me if comment were outdated) AMD iGPU has some issue to be passed to VMs in Proxmox but I am not sure whether this is true

honestly i did not try that yet, since i do not have an amd with igpu...
