Hello!

I want to ask the forum about the raid controllers.
I want to buy a raid controller to my server. It has 2x1TB 7200rpm sata disk.
The controller need to know write-back cache and with bbu.
Which contoller is the best in price / value for proxmox? Max ~450$.

The goal is better write / read speed and lower I/O delay becouse now if some pc use the disk another vps freeze. I want to add 2 more disk with some specs and use raid 10.

Anybody?

Adaptec SATA/SAS RAID 6405SI
with Adaptec AFM-600 Flash Modul
works fine here.

We are using the Adaptec 6805E without a BBU / flash module. Since our servers have UPS power, and we are using a journaling file system (ext4 with data=ordered), we are reasonably protected against data corruption during a power failure.

I'm not saying a BBU is useless, but your money is probably better spent on more disks or an SSD because regardless of the RAID controller and caching, you will still find IO performance very low using a mirror of two 7200rpm disks.

If you don't have the money to use SSD storage for your entire server, you still have a couple of options to accelerate your server using a small SSD.

You can use an SSD cache (like flashcache or EnhanceIO):

Or you can mount ext4 with an external journal on a small SSD:
