Hello everyone

Been running pve since 5, had a scrub running every 2nd sunday.

Since installing pve7 seems there is a scrub job running every monday, at least looking at my 8 disk pool it looks like a scrub and takes the same amount of time as the regular scrub. Although checking zpool status says it ran last 2nd sunday of august. Checked all /etc/cron* jobs and couldn't see anything.

root@Maverick:/etc# pveversion
pve-manager/7.0-11/63d82f4e (running kernel: 5.11.22-3-pve)

So if it's not a scrub, what is it? Don't want to put extra stress on the disks.

did you configure the scrub manually or is that the regular scrub from /etc/cron.d/zfsutils-linux?

The cronjobs got updated a bit with PVE 7.0 (more precisely with ZFS 2.0.5, which is also available on PVE 6) - but the timeframe for the scrub is as it was (2nd sunday of the month) - another job got added which trims the disks if they benefit from it.

Where do you see that - if zpool status says it's the 2nd sunday - why do you think something runs every monday?

I hope this helps!

yes default scrub in /etc/cron.d/zfsutils-linux. Aren't trim supposed to be for SSD's? Although PVE is setup on zfs mirrored SSD's the main Tank pool is on HDD's.

PVE running on a Dell R720xd, looking at the behavior when I know it's scrubbing the 8 disk zfs pool, the disk activity lights shows high activity while the fans ramp up. So noticing this activity knowing it's not scrub time, made me think it was a new scrub job that came with PVE7 and I couldn't find it.

It is a home lab with light load mainly used as a media server since pve5 and had not notice, since first setup, any other heavy loads other than scrub.

Today, during the same time as yesterday when it was I thought scrubbing again, I started looking in the VM's thinking it may be something up. Turns out, in Plex VM, I activated a new feature for in-depth analysis and the schedule corresponded to the server being busy like it was scrubbing.

Since the Plex change and the PVE7 upgrade was done roughly the same time, I inadvertently thought PVE7 was the culprit. Will monitor Plex behavior more closely, if it does not quiet down after deep analysis of the media, I will turn this off.

Thanks for taking the time...
