[SOLVED] Proxmox on HPE Prolient IP issues

I am new to homelabs and not the best at networking but I was recently gifted a HPE Prolient 380 from a friend and decided to start testing out a home lab.

I have installed Proxmox on the server, but am having issues connecting to the Web Portal as I keep getting a timeout error.

After a bit of checking, I realised I kept the default IP addresses from the setup. I updated the IP to a new address in Hosts and Interface, but I am still getting issues connecting to the web portal and am a bit stuck on what I need to check next.

I have a suspicion it may have something to do with the IP ILO is using, but I am not sure what IP I can use for Proxmox given that the server itself uses 192.168.0.40 for the ILO console.

Current details.

Prolient IP 192.168.0.40

Proxmox IP is set as 192.168.0.44

Gateway set as 8.8.8.8

Currently I get a destination host unreachable pinging 8.8.8.8

Any help would be appreciated, or advise on where to check for more information.

Welcome to the Proxmox forum, cyril125!

Gateway set as 8.8.8.8
This seems from the first glance like the cause of trouble, as the gateway should be set to the IP address of the router. 8.8.8.8 is the public DNS server from Google, which has a very different application, and you should set this address in the DNS settings (/etc/resolv.conf) and change the gateway to the actual router's IP address.

You can configure the addresses for your PVE's NIC in /etc/network/interfaces.

Thanks for the assistance on this!

You are right, it looks like I had also made some additional errors on the actual Prolient server as well.

End settings that worked were...

Static IP for ILO 5 set to 192.168.0.40, for some reason even though I set it to static on the server, it reset back to DHCP.

etc.hosts
1732332686555.pngInterfaces as below.

Once I updated the details correct it seemed to work.

Cheers for the assistance
