Created the install USB on Ubuntu 18.04LTS with DD instructions on: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Prepare_Installation_Media

Booting on:

Code:
Asus Z9PA-D8 with dual Xeon E5-2670
32GB Ram
10 HDDs connected

The interesting bit is I just installed Proxmox and it was totally fine. Booted fine and started working with it. Then I rebooted my server and I got the following message:

Code:
Cannot process volume group pve
Volume group "pve" not found
Gave up waiting for root file system devices.
- Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
   - Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
- Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)
ALERT! /dev/mapper/pve-root does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

BusyBox v1.30.1 (Debian 1:1.30.1-4) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands

(initramfs)

I researched this and could not find a solution. So frustrated I was like "I'll just reinstall". Then I went to boot from the exact same USB drive that i had installed with and received the following error:

Code:
Proxmox startup
mounting proc filesystem
mounting sys filesystem
comandline: BOOT_IMAG=/boot/linux26 ro ramdisk_size=16777216 rw quiet splash=verbose proxdebug
loading drivers: AHCI mpt3sas wmi mac_hid ipmi_si ipmi_ssif i2c_i801 pcspkr intel_rapl_perf intel_estate aesni_intel ghash_clmulni_intel crc32_pclmul crct10_pclmul crct10dif_pclmul kvm_intel intel_powerclamp x86_pkg_temp_thermal intel_rapl_common
searching for cdrom
testing again in 5 seconds

no cdrom found
unable to continue (type exit of CTRL-D to reboot)

This message was from booting into "debug mode". Exasperated i tried a new flash drive and DD'd it. So I have tried two separate flash-drives with the exact same result.

The interesting bit is the drive is mounted on all boots with both flash-drives. Please see attached picture. I have gone through a lot of the forums but have not found a solution which work. I have been running FreeNAS for a number of years but was thinking about moving to Proxmox and virtualizing FreeNAS as I would like virtualize and see how that goes; sadly not so well yet.

I am perplexed how the first run Proxmox did everything perfectly and now for some reason its not. I would still very much like to try out Proxmox and see if its something i would like to deploy on a larger scale. Hope there are some ideas.

Hi,

this problem are BIOS/UEFI related.
You can try the following things.
1.) Try to update the Bios firmware.
2.) increase the "rootdelay=" to 5sec. This can be set on the Linux boot parameter. in Grub menu, you can press e
3.) install Proxmox on top of Debian 10.[a]
4.) wait for the new Proxmox 6.1-2.iso
