Hi!

I am planning to do a new fun project! I want to try to create a Raspberry Pi cluster which I can host my own Virtual Machines on. And I got some recomendations to use proxmox as hypervisor. But I have some questions.

1. Do I need a sperate computer/device as the main hypervisor outside the cluster?
2. I am planning to have a lot of raspberries, about 12, but starting with 2 now ro test it put. The Pis whill have one SSD each, and I am wondering if lets say one VM needs to use 200gb and every node has 128gb attached, is there a way to distribute the storage? I havent used ZFS but can you use something like that?

Thanks in advance!
best regards Max

Proxmox VE does not run on ARM, as stated in the manual: https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/pve-admin-guide.html#_system_requirements
And I got some recomendations to use proxmox as hypervisor.
That's strange as Proxmox won't run and does not support it. Maybe they recommended some derived software that is called differently? Maybe they can help you?

EDIT: I don't want to gatekeep but I am concerned about people mistaking PiMox and others for Proxmox and mixing up issues between them.

Ah ok, my goal is to setup a "mini datacenter" where I can host my own VMs and host a lot of containers with docker/kubernetes. But if I use PiMox it is kind of the same thing as Proxmox?

But I am doing it just for leaning and the "cool factor" to have a Pi cluster with a blade mounded rack for a server rack :D

Then just go with k8s and skip PiMox.

Technically yes, but without support and mostly without community support, too.
