Good Evening

I'm trying to install pfsense in Proxmox. The installation of the VM is not a problem.
My wish is to give at proxmox the internet access over Pfsense. Pfsense check the traffic before to arrive in proxmox. Is this possible?

I know with hyper-v is possible but I am not sure with proxmox

Greetings

Max

I am trying to do almost the same as you, but using physical NICs and physical switch. My idea is to have three physical ports/nic available for the proxmox server. initial 1 port for the management on the WAN side (192.168.0.50), this will come from the main router. Then after installing pfsense with two ports/nic, the WAN interface with an address from the main router (192.168.0.100) for example. And the second port for the LAN side with a network address (172.16.16.0/24) this will then be connected to a managed switch.

So, once everything is working fine. I am intending to move the Promox management interface to the (172.16.16.0/24), just by disconnect from the main router and connecting to the switch.

If anyone has ever done this type of scenario and could share their experience and steps that were taken will be very helpful.

Best Regards,
Fabio

The exact steps I took, are vague to me, but I can tell you that I have done exactly that. The only difference is that I have running Sophos as a VM inside Proxmox and have five hardware NICs. I don't have a separate management port to access Proxmox VE, but since the IP address of it is on the LAN, I can access it anyway.
I do recall what was tricky finding the correct hardware NIC associated with a vNIC. I think that was just a matter of static'ing a laptop/PC to an address on the LAN, and perform a ping -t while moving the patch cord from port to port until I got a response.

Very possible, I have pfsense running this way for a while. Check thread linked below toward the end for a discussion that might help you both.

Based on your motherboard and cpu capabilities there are additional options with nic passthrough and SRIOV, but just everyday linux bridges (with "Vlan aware" on set on the LAN vmbrX) set up in the Proxmox Gui will work as well.
