Passthrough Usb Disk to Windows 2012 R2 Server

Does it has to be emulated as USB? It's easier to pass the stick as a "real" disk and use it as it is.

Is there some secret logic about backing up to a usb stick? Use the build in backup which safes a lot worries when you have to restore it.

I have to store some mssql databases in the USB disk and it has to be removable. my customer should have the possibility to disconnect and reconnect it in autonomia.
I read an article in wich it was written that W2012 R2 (as guest) doesn't support the USB disk passthrough. Is it right? Should i follow the guide in the wiki?

Thank you.
