I just acquired an XFX Radeon 480 GPU which was supposed to replace my old Radeon 280X. I am running Proxmox 4.3, and it has had two Radeon 280X cards, one to a Windows 10 VM, and one to a Linux VM, and it has worked pretty well.
After replacing one of them with the 480 neither Windows or Linux works with it. I can see the OVMF screen, and the initial bootloader in both O/S:es but then it either locks up the VM or the entire Proxmox host.

The hardware is Intel Crappylake 6700K with Z170 chipset which is well known for causing problems, I had to apply the ACS downstream kernel option to get it to work with the 280X cards because of the flawed IOMMU group separation.

Has anyone successfully passed through a 480 ? Even though my platform is not good for passthrough, the two 280X cards were fairly stable, so I´m a bit surprised the 480 didn´t work.

Might try it on my older AMD 990FX based motherboard which has been very solid with passthrough before, but the Intel machine is quite alot faster, so it is not a longterm solution.

I just can say, for newer graphic cards, the Nvidia Zotac 1050 TI OC Edition works under Windows 8.1 VM
