hi

at the moment i'm testing a little bit with a Dell Poweredge R710 and i tried to install the system on a small flash drive (http://geizhals.at/a377713.html)
at the installation i get this error: "hardisk too small (1GB) at /usr/bin/proxinstall line 541"

can someone give me the minimum requirement of the hdd size for the installation
would 4GB work or do it have to be 8GB? (i know that the installations works with 8gb cause i installed it once on a usb stick)

thanks

for the records, maybe i'm the first who tried this :D

Hi,

What is the minimum size for hard drive? I also got the error:
hardisk too small

Installing Proxmox 3.1

The min system requirements just states I need a Hard Drive. I have that.

4gb USB stick, it shows up as 3gb in the list. First timer here, trying to leave vmware. I assumed I'd install proxmox on the usb stick (as I did ESXi on my HP N40L), and then use the 4xHDDs to store OS and Data.

If I install Debian Wheezy, then Proxmox, is that still a bare-metal hypervisor? Not sure what the difference would be from installing VirtualBox on an already installed OS.

Thanks for the help...

how small is your hard-drive, any details?
our installer partitions your disk that you can store CT and VMs, also leaves some space for LVM snapshots (for CT backups).
(see also the boot options on the installer ISO http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Debugging_Installation)

If this partition setup does not fit, install a Debian Wheezy and on top, Proxmox VE.

don´t use a usb stick, due to the bad quality of most sticks, it will not work a long time. as you already read our system requirements, use a hard disk. a usb stick is not a hard disk.
(but you can use also a ssd).

i suggest you add a hardware raid controller and then you can add raid volumes as needed. e.g. raid10 for best performance.

I already have hardware raid (HP P410), and yes I am using raid 10. I guess I am not understanding the drive usage/partition layout. Is the proxmox OS drive the same as the VM OS drive? In other words, if I wish to install 100 VMs, I need to make sure the same drive I install proxmox on will also be able to store 100 operating systems?
