We are looking to install a remote server at a secondary location to allow us to create a Proxmox VE cluster and migrate VMs from one PM box to the other as a fallback solution. However it is likely that the versions of PM on each data center will be different.

Will migration of OpenVZ and/or KVM containers between PM boxes that are different (say 1.8 and 2.0) be an issue? Do all PM hosts have to be the same version in order for migration to work?

Please advise, and thank you for creating such an beautiful solution for VM hosting!

2.0 is a major new release - so yes, there will be issues.

Backup/restore should work without problems inside a major release (1.X or 2.X). Live migration
only works if you have exactly the same versions.
