Hi I've been using proxmox for over a year.

Currently running with two hd. One for the proxmox and for the vm storage.
I want to make at least RAID 1 for the vmstorage, but since it's hard to get good hardware raid here, I can only use software raid.

I understand that proxmox doesn't support software / fake raid, but if it is for the "vm storage" ( not the storage where proxmox is installed ) , will proxmox able to see the raid ? I'm planning using mdraid. ZFS is not an option since I don't have enough RAM that can be spare

There is another hacky way I can think, is to give 2 virtual hdd from separate vm storage and let the vm do the mdraid inside, how stable is this options ?

Mdraid works fine. I use a raid 10. You just need to configure it from cli and then add it as a directory

It's not a problem to use a mounted software raid as Proxmox "Directory" storage.
