LXC Debian vs Ubuntu

I most often use LXC containers on my Proxmox home server and wondered which of the Debian or Ubuntu operating systems is best suited for this?
Which of these operating systems in the LXC container is more productive or stable? Are there any significant differences for simple tasks, like a home web server or a server for a smart home?

Agreed that there's not really a clear winner.

Unless I need Ubuntu-specific features that I can't get on Debian, I go with Debian. Ubuntu has overhead (e.g., snapd) I don't need or want, and Debian is lighter.

Debian is also just different enough from Ubuntu that it can take some getting used to, though (e.g., sudo not being installed by default), so give yourself a bit of extra time when you set up your LXC to iron out any glitches.

What sort of software are you planning to run on your server?

Apache
Nextcloud
Home
Assistant
maybe some video surveillance services
I'd suggest looking up those apps and trying to find Debian install instructions.

If there are instructions to get them running on Debian (or at least nothing that says they don't run on Debian), you should be fine with a Debian LXC.

Anything running in Docker should also work just fine in a Debian LXC.
